Learning Event/Endurance 201 -- Night Riding -- CANCELED

Endurance 201 Clinic: Night Riding

The clinic will start with a sit-down lecture format discussion with tips/tricks for best night riding practices; the latter half of the clinic, participants will be divided up into small groups and sent out on a marked course with a mentor guide to experience night riding for themselves. Speed/mileage will vary -- participants will be divided up into groups according to horse fitness/endurance experience.

Camping is available at the park Saturday night - contact McDowell Mountain Park directly to make a reservation ($22/night for dry camping in the Four Peaks Staging Area) at 602-506-2930. This could be a good chance to practice camping overnight with your horse without the energy/excitement of a formal endurance event. There is a hose bib/water at the upper end of camp, and a permanent bathroom/shower is also available at the staging area.

There is a $15 charge for the riding portion for everyone; auditing is free to club members and $10 for non members. (Registration is set up for the riding portion; if you are a non-riding non-member, you can show up and pay for the auditing portion in person.) REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED IF RIDING.

Things to bring:
- your typical tack set-up (saddle/saddle pad/bridle/whatever other tack
- some sort of hoof protection is strongly recommended, parts of the trail can be rocky
- chair
- water bucket & hay bag (horse will be tied to the trailer during the lecture portion of the clinic)
- containment system if camping overnight (overhead tie arm, portable panels, hard tie to trailer, etc)
- the lecture portion will run through the dinner hour, so you may want to bring something to eat during that time
- headlamp/small flashlight
